FORT LAUDERDALE – Hammond & Associates, the largest Black-owned MEP engineering firm in South Florida, officially announced that Vice President, Nate Hammond, will step into the role of president to manage the firm’s day-to-day operations.

Nate will be responsible for building upon the strong reputation and legacy built over the last 35 years. Nate succeeds Eric Hammond, his father and the firm’s founder. Though Eric will step down as president, he will continue to be involved as a board of director serving in an advisory capacity. This transition could not be more timely, as the company celebrates 35 years in business this year.

“I feel very proud to look back over the past 35 years and see how the firm has grown so exponentially,” stated Founder Eric Hammond. “Because of Nate’s expertise in business development, client relationships and process improvement, he is what the company needs to expand our reach and become the leading, innovative MEP engineering firm that we can be.”

Key Projects

Nate joined the company to establish the company’s first expansion office in Atlanta in 2018. He led business development for both Georgia and South Florida. Within months of starting the Atlanta office, the firm landed its first big project in Atlanta, a senior and community center in DeKalb county. Since then, the firm has been involved in some of the most impactful and highly visible projects in Georgia. Plus, across several markets that include Government/Municipal, Higher Education, K-12, Multifamily and Mixed Use. Within South Florida, Nate has accelerated the company’s growth and continues its legacy of delivering highly notable projects within Aviation, Government/Municipal, K-12, Public Safety, Maritime (Ports), Cultural Arts and Multifamily.

Over the last 5 years, Nate’s role expanded into overall business operations and general management as part of the leadership transition from his father. During his tenure, he has been instrumental in the firm’s growth, helping triple the number of employees from 8 in 2018 to more than 25 in 2023.

Community Involvement

Nate is a Florida State University graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He is committed to supporting both the Florida and Georgia communities. Nate was recently selected as a board member for the Council for Quality Growth. Additionally, Nate serves on other boards including Society of Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) as Sponsorship Chair and SPIKE Studio as Governance Chair.

“I am humbled and blessed to have the opportunity to carry on the legacy my father started 35 years ago,” stated Nate Hammond. “My father’s boldness to start this firm in a much different business environment and then survive and also thrive is impressive and inspirational. Under my father’s leadership, the company developed a strong reputation and foundation. With our amazingly talented engineering and support staff, I plan to build upon that foundation to better serve our clients and the communities.”
